Book Review: The Night Circus

Hello everyone! 🙂 Today is a blogpost on my twenty-seventh read of 2020, which is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I hope you enjoy…

“The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black and white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway- a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructions. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst in love- a deep magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands. True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead. Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.” (Goodreads).

Wow, this book really got me. I was so excited to read it as I heard so many great reviews on it. It certainly didn’t disappoint, and was even better than what I expected. At first, I thought it would just be a story about a magical circus, but when I got into it, I was excited and amazed to discover that the circus was only half of the story. The circus as a venue for a life-long competition between two magicians is a genius idea, and is definitely unique and unlike anything else I’ve ever read.

What made me fall in love with this book is the magical aspect of it. The descriptions of the settings, including the cities such as 19th century London, Paris, and Prague, alongside the descriptions of the circus is beautiful to read about. It is also great to read about the circus’ development over different decades, as well as the characters’. The book had me gripped from the beginning, and I found it an easy, relaxing read. How I didn’t read it years ago is beyond me. Overall, I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

I hope you enjoyed my review for The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. If you have any thoughts or comments, please leave them below. Happy Reading! 🙂
